BAINBRIDGE ISLAND

August 1st 2012

Around 9.50 we boarded the bus to Seattle (bus number 255). Nice and sunny day, already pretty warm. Washington state is joining the rest of the country with the heat wave. About half and hour ride, quiet and uneventful. Walk to the Pier 52, where the ferry dock is. A lot of people, full sun on the sky and blue waters of the Puget sound. We bought tickets and were last ones to board 10.40 ferry.
There was a lot of people traveling on the ferry, probably just following the tour books. Taking a ferry and visiting Baibridge island is "must do" while visiting Seattle. Leaving the city was really incredible. The views,  blue sky and all the ocean around. We could even watch the planes heading towards Sea-Tack airport. Just the views were almost magical. Worth it.
About 35 minutes ride (costing 7.50 dollars). Relaxing, kind of cold in the shadows. Pretty soon landing at the Bainbridge Island. Following another probably 200 people who were getting off the ferry. Slow walk towards small downtown. Basically trinkets and food. Nice, small and cute, but ... And getting really warm. After walking thru downtown we got down to the marina.
After some sightseeing and wondering around, we decided to finish the visit and head towards the ferry landing. Walked along the water, passed yacht club and saw some older ladies on the bridge asking us to be quiet. It turned out, there was raccoon family in the stream.
Waiting for the ferry. J. tried to called some people about our next destination. Again quite a lot of people waiting for the ferry. It really has to be busy. (According to the booklet, this is the busiest of the Washington ferries.) While leaving, I watched the ducks on the ferry landing (seagulls). And still the same incredible views from the boat. We even saw Mt. Rainier. It is hard to capture the view on the photograph. You can see so far all around, that the camera just cannot include all of it.

While getting close to Seattle and landing, we could watch fire boat spraying water (no idea why).
Pretty hot, when we got off the ferry (together with probably couple hundred people). We were thinking about grabbing lunch at "legendary" Ivar's restaurant, but there was so many people and it looked funky, so we did not do that. We could not figure out what else we want to do, so I got kind of cranky and we went home. Bus ride and walk home.
