KANAB-FLAGSTAFF
We had pretty bad night again, it just felt too weird, I
guess. We got gasoline, coffee and hit the road again. Somehow I missed the
turn and we ended up on 89A instead of 89 (difference of about 25 minutes.
Another nice day. It was flat and endless to start with. At this point, we were
not sure what to expect from Flagstaff.
We did not have time to research and do much thinking, so we were just hoping
it would be nice. Within minutes, we were passing sign welcoming us in Arizona.
We had to move in and J. had to work next day, so our plan
was to arrive to Flagstaff
around noon. No real plans to stop or do sightseeing. For a while, it was
boring and not much to see. Then it changed and we were climbing some and
seeing some rock formations and a lot of red color.
It was interesting, how the landscape was changing. The
cliffs and hills in the back created really impressive pictures. The red color
was all around. And then there was river. We cross the bridge and stopped by
small site. There was small pedestrian bridge and deep canyon. It used to be crossing
on the way from Flagstaff
to Kanab. Now, it was just incredible.
The landscape was still changing. It was between the plain
(almost like desert) with smaller settlements of (probably) Navajos, and rocky
and hilly formation rising up and creating something really pretty. The long
stretches of road were boring, but helped us to keep our time schedule. The
weather was really nice and welcoming.
Even the sky was creating really nice background for picture
taking and viewing. Honestly, we were both looking to be done with driving. For
a while, the landscape was different, there was much more trees (pines perhaps)
and it looked pretty green. At this point we were hoping Flagstaff will look like that. It was really
creating nice country (red rock, trees and mountains in the back). Getting
closer to Flagstaff, we started to see San
Francisco Peaks (one of them is the highest point in Arizona).
Even they are pretty tall (over 12000 feet), they do not
look as impressive as mountains in Washington
state. Being so close to Peaks meant we were really close to Flagstaff. There were some other sites, that
we will visit, but for now, we just wanted to be done.
Well, there was Flagstaff.
It was nice and green, nestled between the mountains. We were slightly early,
so we decided to get groceries. And then arrived. Really nice place, too big
for us, but … Unfortunately internet was not working and J. needed to get some
license stuff done, so we visited info center in town, went to Fedex business
center and printed the forms.
And … let’s next 13 weeks begin.
