SALT LAKE-KANAB
We had breakfast with J. relatives. One of her aunts left
for her home, so we had couple of hours left before heading south. We figured
we would go with her aunt and uncle to downtown Salt Lake City to do quick sightseeing. It
was nice day, sunny and blue sky. Her relatives are members of LDS church (as
is 60% of Utah
population). We took quick tour of Conference center, Temple square, Desert bookstore (we got Book
of Mormon as a gift) and formal hotel, now Memorial building. It was really
interesting.
It was supposed to be maybe hour, but at the end, we were
there two and half-hours. We went back to their house and said goodbye. We hit
the road and were heading south (signs towards Las Vegas). Not really appealing city (from
highway), burning sun and two of us tired and hungry. J. was still working on
housing and work details (frustrating). I got off the highway to get some food,
but the exit was confusing, so we just continued and got Subway half an hour
later. The civilization was gone and it was just empty land.
Again, we were pushed by time. The drive was kind of boring
(flat and endless plains). It looked almost like a desert. And then got hilly.
We were driving in 5000 feet elevation.
It got really interesting and pretty. Raising rocks, red
colors, and very impressive landscape. There was not much else, however. We
arrived in Kanab at around seven o’clock. Checked in the motel (it looked bad
from outside, the room was ok). And drove back to the town, where was street
fair ending. Really warm, red hills all around and kind of “wild west” picture.
