ROAD TRIP - DAY 3 (5-11-2012)

Interior, South Dakota to Ten Sleep, Wyoming
About 360 miles, 6 hours.

We woke up in Interior, population of 67. We hiked few short trails in Badlands National Park. It was pretty cold, cloudy and not very pleasant. The scenic road was under construction. At the end, we did not spend a lot of time in there.

Our next destination was Mt. Rushmore. We drove through the park towards Rapid City, which we just saw from the freeway. Along the way, we stopped at odd gift shop called "House of Scandinavia", all about Scandinavia. We both have strange connection towards this part of Europe.

We were both hungry, so we stopped in Keystone (tourist trap next to Mt. Rushmore). Teddy's Deli was recommended by internet, so we gave it a try. It was not bad. Tuna melt. The great american Reuben.

Mt. Rushmore - not much to say. I just thought it was kind of strange.

To enjoy scenery, we took road 385 to Spearfish, driving through Black Hills national forest. After all the flatness and farm land, this was something to enjoy. We stopped by Pactola lake.

People in South Dakota are really friendly.
We made one more scenery stop, Bridal viel Falls.

We again changed the plan a bit and decided to drive as far as possible. The plan was to stay in Buffalo, but it looked like we could get further. Driving and driving. We passed city of Buffalo, Wyoming, that was getting ready for wild Friday night.

And then we saw it:

Mountains and snow.
Bighorn national forest. Going up. Going down. Brakes on the car were burning.
And the sun was disappearing.
Finally around 9.00 pm we were in Ten Sleep, Wyoming.
The motel was deserted, with note to call the number so someone could come.
Happy end. We had place to stay and were happy to be done with the day.
